Horses and other equine patients require veterinarians who specialize in treating them so we are pleased to offer this service in Bay City, TX and the surrounding communities.
Here at Bay City Veterinary Clinic & Equine Hospital, our veterinarians are able to take care of your prized horses and other equines, whether you show them, breed them, or just love them as pets. Our entire staff is dedicated to our equine patients so that they can have the very best life possible.
Since horses have different vaccination needs, depending on where they live, if they travel, and what they do, we recommend discussing your horse’s vaccination schedule with us. Together we can start a schedule that will work for you and your new horse.
Horses typically don’t get vaccinations until they are several months old, depending on their needs. Some vaccinations are started at four months old and need to be boostered three to four weeks later. Some vaccinations are not given until a horse is five to six months old. Most of these also need to be boostered three to four weeks later.
Bloodwork And Coggins Lab
We offer in-house blood analysis to provide a fast and accurate evaluation of your horse’s health. We also have an USDA certified Coggins Lab and we offer Coggins test results in 24 hours.
Dental problems in your horse may have signs of pain or inflammation, but with time your horse may adapt to the discomfort. Therefore, mature horses should have a thorough dental exam at least once a year and horses 2-5 years old should have a dental exam twice yearly. Bay City Veterinary Clinic uses the Power Float system to float your horse's teeth. This instrument uses a small grinding disc mounted on a lightweight hand held power drive. This system allows each tooth to be addressed individually throughout the mouth. Due to the precision of this instrument all dental procedures can be performed without trauma to other areas of the mouth.
We are proud to offer artificial insemination, which can save you time and money. You won’t have to transport your mare to the stallion. Instead, the sperm can be frozen and mailed to you so that we can place it in your mare’s cervix. We are also proud to do embryo transfers so that your mare can still continue to show and train while producing offspring.
Joint inflammation or arthritic changes can affect your equine companion's personality and willingness to perform:
The doctors here at Bay City Veterinary Clinic & Equine Hospital have been performing joint injections for over 25 years. This procedure can provide your horse joint pain relief and increase performance levels.
